“I’m just not a morning person.”
It’s one of the most common things we hear at the gym — usually from someone standing right in front of us at 6 a.m., proving themselves wrong! Here’s the truth: morning workout people aren’t born, they’re built, one small (totally doable) adjustment at a time. Let’s get you there.
Stop Trying to Overhaul Your Whole Schedule Overnight
Jumping from a 9 a.m. workout to a 5:30 a.m. workout in one day? Recipe for burnout. Instead, shift your wake-up time by 15 minutes every few days until you land right where you want to be. Your body adjusts gradually, and the change feels way less brutal — sneaky and effective, just how we like it.
Prep the Night Before
The less your brain has to think about at 6 a.m., the more likely you are to actually get up — future you will be so grateful. Try:
- Laying out your workout clothes and shoes
- Packing your gym bag by the door
- Prepping a quick pre-workout snack or having your water bottle filled
- Setting your alarm across the room, not next to your bed
Anchor It to an Existing Habit
Habits stick better when they’re attached to something you already do. If you always make coffee in the morning, try putting your workout clothes right next to the coffee maker as a visual cue. Small nudges like this make the decision to work out feel automatic instead of optional — practically effortless once it clicks.
Give Yourself a Reason to Look Forward to It
Whether it’s a favorite playlist, a class you genuinely love, or catching up with a workout buddy, morning workouts stick way better when there’s something to actually look forward to — not just something to grind through. Make it fun and the rest takes care of itself!
Expect the First Two Weeks to Feel Hard (Then Watch It Get Easier)
This is the part most people give up on, and it’s exactly why you’re not going to. Your body and mind just need a little time to adjust to a new rhythm. Push through the first 10–14 days, and most people find it starts to feel noticeably easier — sometimes even genuinely enjoyable. You’ve got this.
Track Small Wins
Mark an X on a calendar, use an app, or just keep a simple note on your phone. Watching a streak build is one of the most motivating things you can do — it turns “I worked out” into visible, satisfying proof of progress. Few things feel better than watching that streak grow!
Find the Morning Class That’s Actually Right for You
Half the battle of becoming a morning workout person is looking forward to what you’re walking into. The good news? CFE Fitness has options, so you can pick the one that fits your style, not just your schedule.
- CrossFit — No two days are the same here! We blend strength, endurance, and mobility using functional movements from Olympic weightlifting, gymnastics, and cardio. Certified coaches keep classes small and scale every workout to your level, so it’s challenging without ever being overwhelming. Great if you like variety and want every session to feel new.
- Ladies Only Curvy Girls — Led by Coach Lori, this program is a fun, full-body workout designed specifically for women, with modified, supportive strength training and cardio for every level. Choose from Bootcamp, Stretch/Core/Balance, or Weightlifting and Intro to Strength Training — plus one-on-one sessions if you’d like a confidence boost before jumping into group classes. If community, encouragement, and a few laughs are what get you out of bed, this one’s for you.
- Semi-Private Training — Want more personalized coaching without going fully 1-on-1? Semi-private training gives you a structured workout tailored to your goals, expert guidance, and a small, motivating group setting. A great fit if you like a bit more individual attention while still training alongside others.
- Personal Training — If mornings feel like the one time of day you can carve out just for you, one-on-one personal training builds a plan entirely around your goals, schedule, and pace.
Not sure which one fits? That’s exactly what a No Sweat Intro is for — sit down with a coach, talk through your goals, and find the class that makes getting up early feel worth it.
You Don’t Have to Do It Alone
Building a new habit is always easier with support in your corner. Whether that’s a class schedule that keeps you accountable, a trainer checking in, or a workout buddy waiting for you at the door, having people counting on you makes all the difference on the mornings your alarm feels like the enemy.
Come find your rhythm with us! Ask our coaches our early morning class schedule or check our website for the schedule— we’ll help you find the right fit and get you started on the best mornings of your life.
